Health Check
How’s Your Mind?
Peter Piñon

Romans 12:1-2 “1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.”

Main Point: Transformation happens when you’re connected.

How’s your Vision?

What causes us to lose focus?

1. Get tired

2. Get comfortable

3. Get discouraged

Mark 10:46-52 “As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus&rdquoWinking, was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”
52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

4 things to get our vision back…

1. Show up

Mark 10:46 “As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus… was sitting by the roadside begging.”

Matthew 18:20 “ For where two or three gather in my name, there am I AM WITH THEM.”

2. Call out

verse 46 “a blind man, Bartimaeus… was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, HE BEGAN TO SHOUT “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Mark 10:48 “Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Mark 10:51 Jesus said… “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”

James 4:2 “you do not have because YOU DO NOT ASK…”

3. Let go

Mark 10:49-50 “Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 THROWING HIS CLOAK ASIDE, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.

4. Follow close

Mark 10:51-52 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” 52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.”

How’s Your Heart?

Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else guard your heart for it is the well spring of life”

Luke 6:45 “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart.”

Matthew 13:3-9 “Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”

“The product of your life will be determined by the posture of your heart”

In fact Jesus says there are 4 different kinds of hearts…

1. The hard heart

2. The shallow heart

Matthew 13:20 “And what is the seed that fell on rocky ground? That seed is like the person who hears the teaching and quickly accepts it with joy. 21 But he does not let the teaching go deep into his life, so he keeps it only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the teaching he accepted, he quickly gives up.”

3. The distracted heart

Matthew 13:22 “And what is the seed that fell among the thorny weeds? That seed is like the person who hears the teaching but lets worries about this life and the temptation of wealth stop that teaching from growing. So the teaching does not produce fruit in that person’s life.

4. The receptive heart
Matthew 13:23 “But what is the seed that fell on the good ground? That seed is like the person who hears the teaching and understands it. That person grows and produces fruit, sometimes a hundred times more, sometimes sixty times more, and sometimes thirty times more.”

So how do we posture our hearts?

1. Posture yourself in humility

James 1:19-20 “ My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.”

2. Position yourself for accountability

3. Submit yourself to authority
