15for15: Legacy

15 for 15
Part 3
The Future Years: Legacy

Key thought: DON’T BUILD A LIFE… BUILD A LEGACY!

Legacy Builders…

1. Life builders are focused on TODAY | Legacy builders are focused on TOMORROW

Proverbs 6:6-8 TLB “Take a lesson from the ants, you lazy fellow. Learn from their ways and be wise! 7 For though they have no king to make them work, 8 yet they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter.”

2. Life builders are focused on GETTING | Legacy builders are focused on GIVING

Luke 12:16-21 NIV ““The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ 18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’ 20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ 21 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

3. Life builders are focused on TITLES | Legacy builders are focused on TESTIMONIES

4. Life builders are focused on THIS GENERATION | Legacy builders are focused on THE NEXT GENERATION

1 Chronicles 28:6-7 NLT “He said to me, ‘Your son Solomon will build my Temple and it’s courtyards, for I have chosen him as my son, and I will be his father. 7 And if he continues to obey my commands and regulations as he does now, I will make his kingdom last forever.”

5. Life builders focus on the TEMPORARY | Legacy builders focus on the ETERNAL

I Corinthians 3:10-15 NLT “Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful.”

15for15: Credibility

The Middle Years: Credibility

Daniel 6:1-5 NIV “It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom, with three administrators over them, one of whom was Daniel. The satraps were made accountable to them so that the king might not suffer loss. Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent. Finally these men said, “We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel...”

1. Serve Quietly

2. Love Genuinely

3. Speak Respectfully

I Peter 2:17 “Show proper respect for everyone.”

I Peter 3:15 “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…”

4. Lead Faithfully

Daniel 6:4 NLT “Then the other administrators and high officers began searching for some fault in the way Daniel was handling government affairs, but they couldn’t find anything to criticize or condemn. He was faithful, always responsible, and completely trustworthy.”

I Thessalonians 4:11-12 TLB “This should be your ambition: to live a quiet life, minding your own business and doing your own work, just as we told you before. 12 As a result, people who are not Christians will trust and respect you…”

Mark 7:37 “People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well.

5. Pray Regularly

15for15: Identity

The Early Years: Identity

Psalm 128:1-4
“Blessings on all who reverence and trust the Lord—on all who obey him!
2 Their reward shall be prosperity and happiness. 3 Your wife shall be contented in your home. And look at all those children! There they sit around the dinner table as vigorous and healthy as young olive trees. 4 That is God’s reward to those who reverence and trust him.”

Key thought: When you get busy building something FOR God, God gets busy building something IN you

Judges 6:11-13 “The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. 12 When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” 13 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.”

1. God SEES MORE IN YOU than you think

Judges 6:15  “Pardon me, my lord,”… “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”

“You are not what you think you are, you are not what others think you are, you are becoming what you think the most important person in your life thinks you are.”
-
John Maxwell

2. You HAVE MORE IN YOU than you think

Judges 6:14 "Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian's hand. Am I not sending you?”

3. FAILURE IS NOT WHAT you think

4. It WON’T ALWAYS HAPPEN THE WAY you think

5. It’s LESS ABOUT YOU than you think

Judges 6:16
The Lord answered, "I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together.”
