ALL-IN Called to Gather

Called to GATHER

Hebrews 10:23-25 NIV “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Why is it important to gather?

1. PRESENCE of God

Matthew 18:19-20 NIV “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Psalm 26:8 NIV "Lord, I love the house where you live, the place where your glory dwells.”

Psalm 16:11 NIV “…You fill me with joy in your presence."

2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV “…Where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom."

1 Chronicles 16:27 " Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his dwelling place.”

2. ENCOURAGEMENT of the people

2 Corinthians 7:5-6 NLT “When we arrived in Macedonia, there was no rest for us. We faced conflict from every direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside. 6 But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus.”

Verse 6 “BUT GOD, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us”

Verse 6b “But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus.”

I Thessalonians 5:11 NIV
“Therefore ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER and build each other up…”

3. GROWTH of the body

Psalm 92:12-13 NIV
"The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; PLANTED in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.

4. MISSION to the world

Matthew 28:19 NIV “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”

Ecclesiastes 4:9 NIV “Two are better than one…”

How can we be ALL IN?

1. ALL INvolved

2. ALL INvested

ALL IN- Called to be Grateful

ALL IN 2020
Part 2
Called to be GRATEFUL

Romans 12:1-2 NCV
“So brothers and sisters, since God has shown us great mercy, I beg you to offer your lives as a living sacrifice to him. Your offering must be only for God and pleasing to him, which is the spiritual way for you to worship. 2 Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you…”

1. What is gratitude?

2. What are the benefits of gratitude?

3. What are some reasons we struggle to be grateful?

4. How can grief and gratitude go hand in hand?

5. How do we learn to be more grateful?

6. What are you grateful for?

7. How can gratitude and generosity be connected?

Romans 12:1 “in view of God’s mercy offer your lives…”

ALL IN- CALLING

ALL IN 2020
ALL IN CALLING

Ephesians 4:1 NIV “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”

Three responses to God’s calling

1. Jump a ship

Jonah 1:1-3 NIV
“The word of the Lord came to Jonah… “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” But Jonah RAN AWAY from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.”

2. Make an excuse

Exodus 3:10-11 NIV
“ So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

3. Drop your nets

Matthew 4:18-20 NIV "As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.”

Storm Stories
Part 3
Noah’s Storm

Genesis 6:9-18 NIV “This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. 11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. 12 God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. 16 Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit high all around. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. 17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.”

  1. The PURPOSE for the storm

Verse 11 “Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence.”

Genesis 3:17 NIV
“To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.”

Matthew 5:45 NIV “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”

John 16:33 NIV “In this world you will have trouble”

2. The PREPARATION for the storm
Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV “Be very careful then how you live — not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil”

3. The PROTECTION in the storm

Verse 17-18 “I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.”

Proverbs 18:10 NASB “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; THE RIGHTEOUS runs into it and is SAFE”

Psalm 34:19-20 NIV “The righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken”

Genesis 7:13-16 NIV “On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark. 14 They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings. 15 Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. 16 The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in.”

Galatians 6:9 NIV “Let us not become weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we DO NOT GIVE UP”

4. The PROMISE after the storm

Genesis 8:20 NIV “Noah built an after to the Lord…”

Genesis 9:1-3 NIV “Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. 2 The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. 3 Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.”

Proverbs 28:20 NIV “A faithful person will be richly blessed,”

Part 2
Jonah’s Storm

Jonah 1:1-4 NIV “The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” 3 But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.
4 Then the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up.”

Good news/Bad news #1

Good news: God wants to speak to you.
Verse 1
"The word of the Lord came to Jonah…”
John 1:1 & 14 NIV 1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14…The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
Bad News: When God speaks to you He will often ask you to do some things that you don’t want to do.
Verse 2
“Go to the great city of Nineveh preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”
Good News/Bad News #2

Good news: We have a choice.
Verse 3 "But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.”
Bad news: Every choice has a consequence.

Verse 4 "Then the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up."

Verse 5 "all the sailors were afraid…

Jonah 1:5-12 “All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep. The captain went to him and said, “How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us, and we will not perish.” Then the sailors said to each other, “Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity.” They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah. So they asked him, “Tell us, who is responsible for making all this trouble for us? What do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?”He answered, “I am a Hebrew and I worship the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the land. ”10 This terrified them and they asked, “What have you done?” (They knew he was running away from the Lord, because he had already told them so.)11 The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him, “What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?”12 “Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied, “and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you.”

Proverbs 28:13 BSB "He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy."

Good News/Bad News #3

Good news: God will get you where He wants you.

Jonah 3:1-3 NIV "Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.”Jonah obeyed the word of the Lord and went to Nineveh…”

Romans 11:29 KJV ”the gifts and callings of God are without repentance."

Bad News: It might not be a comfortable ride.

Jonah 1:12-17 NIV “Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied, “and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you.” 13 Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before. 14 Then they cried to the Lord, “O Lord, please do not let us die for taking this man’s life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you, O Lord, have done as you pleased.” 15 Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm. 16 At this the men greatly feared the Lord, and they offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows to him.17 Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the belly of the fish three days and three nights."
