Part 1
Encourage One Another
I Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
2 Corinthians 7:5-6 NLT “When we arrived in Macedonia, there was no rest for us. We faced conflict from every direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside. 6 But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus.”
Notice 3 things…
1. Discouragement comes from every direction.
Verse 5 “We faced conflict from every direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside”
Verse 5b “with battles on the outside”
Verse 5c “with battles on the outside and fear on the inside’
2. Encouragement comes from God
Verse 6 “But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us”
Psalm 16:11 “you will fill me with joy in your presence”
3. Encouragement flows through others.
Verse 6b “But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus.”
I Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER and build each other up…”
How do we encourage others? 4 things…
1. Seek
1 Corinthians 13:7 MSG “love… Always looks for the best.”
Romans 12:10 HCSB “Show family affection to one another with brotherly love. Outdo one another in showing honor.”
2. Speak
Romans 14:19 (MSG) “So let's agree to use all our energy in getting along with each other. Help others with encouraging words; don't drag them down by finding fault.”
Proverbs 16:24 “Gracious words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”
3. Meet
Hebrews 10:25 “Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
Proverbs 11:25 “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”
4. Repeat
Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
verse 25 “all the more as you see the day approaching”
Hebrews 3:13 “But encourage one another DAILY, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

Luke 15:11-12 NIV “Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.”
Luke 15:13-14 NIV 13 “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need.”
Luke 15:15-16 NIV 15 “So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.”
Luke 15:17-19 NIV 17 “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’”
Luke 15:20-21 NIV 20 “So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. 21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’”
Luke 15:22-24 NIV 22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.”
REMEMBER his sudden DEPARTURE
REMEMBER his sad DEMISE
Luke 15:14 NIV “he began to be in need.”
REMEMBER his sincere DETERMINATION
Ephesians 2:4-5 NIV 4 “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”
GRACE meets you WHERE YOU ARE.
REMEMBER his secure DESTINATION
Luke 15:20a NIV “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him.”
Luke 15:20b NIV “He ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.”
You can never trust GOD to be UN-GRACEFUL.
Luke 15:31-32 NIV 31 “‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

All InALL your STRENGTH
Key Thought… God’s purpose for you is not about what I can GET, but it’s about what I can GIVE.
Mark 12:30 “Love the Lord your God with All your heart and with All your soul and with All your mind and with All your strength.”
Romans 12:11 NCV “Do not be lazy but WORK HARD, serving the Lord with all your heart.”
Matthew 25:14-15 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and PUT HIS MONEY TO WORK…”
Matthew 25:15 “To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, EACH ACCORDING TO HIS ABILITY.”
Three things from Matthew 25 on loving God with All Your Strength…
1. RECOGNIZE
2. STRATEGIZE
Ephesians 5:15-16 "be very CAREFUL how you live not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity…”
3. UTILIZE
Ephesians 5:16 “making THE MOST of every opportunity…”
Colossians 1:28-29 “He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. 29 To this end I strenuously contend with ALL THE ENERGY Christ so powerfully works in me.”
b. He supplies SEED.
verse 10 “He supplies seed to the sower.”
3. Think on the ETERNAL not the TEMPORAL.
a. The Great White Throne Judgement
b. The Judgement Seat of Christ
2 Corinthians 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the THINGS DONE while IN THE BODY, whether good or bad.”
I Corinthians 3:12-15 “If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.”
How do I make sure I am thinking eternity not temporary?
Mark 12:30-31 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
