Leadership

Proverbs 29:2 (NLT) “When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan.”

3 things about leadership

1. Everyone has a PERSON to LEAD.

a. Self AWARENESS

Matthew 7:3–5 (NIV) “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, “Let me take the speck out of your eye,” when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

b. Self MANAGEMENT

Galatians 5:22–23 (NLT) “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

2. Some have been given a PLATFORM for LEADING.

Romans 12:6–8 (NLT) “In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

Now if you are someone who has people following you, and I would say that’s many of you in this room today. Then there are 2 things to remember about leadership platforms

a. God is the one who gave you the platform.

b. If you fall off your platform, somebody’s going to get hurt.

3. God has given us a PATTERN to FOLLOW.

Philippians 2:3-8 (NLT) “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave[c] and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.”

Hats Pt3

4 steps to balancing your hats

1. Determine your priorities.

Our priority list…

  1. God: Deuteronomy 6:5 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”

John 17:17
Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.”

  1. your Spouse: Ephesians 5:33
So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”

  1. Your Children: Proverbs 22:6
Direct your children onto the right path,
and when they are older, they will not leave it.:

d.
Family: Deuteronomy 5:16
“Honor your father and mother, as the Lord your God commanded you. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”

e. Ministry: Hebrews 10:24
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.”

2. Decide to say “no” to whatever detracts from those priorities.

Philippians 1:9-10
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.

3
. Dump “flashy hat” thinking. Learn to be content with doing your best and relying on God to help you.

Exodus 8:7-10, 13, 17, 24
7So Moses went out to meet his father-in-law. He bowed low and kissed him. They asked about each other’s welfare and then went into Moses’ tent.
Moses told his father-in-law everything the Lord had done to Pharaoh and Egypt on behalf of Israel. He also told about all the hardships they had experienced along the way and how the Lord had rescued his people from all their troubles. Jethro was delighted when he heard about all the good things the Lord had done for Israel as he rescued them from the hand of the Egyptians.
10 “Praise the Lord,” Jethro said, “for he has rescued you from the Egyptians and from Pharaoh. Yes, he has rescued Israel from the powerful hand of Egypt!

Jethro’s Wise Advice
13 The next day, Moses took his seat to hear the people’s disputes against each other. They waited before him from morning till evening.

17 “This is not good!” Moses’ father-in-law exclaimed. 18 “You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself. 19 Now listen to me, and let me give you a word of advice, and may God be with you. You should continue to be the people’s representative before God, bringing their disputes to him.

24
Moses listened to his father-in-law’s advice and followed his suggestions. 25 He chose capable men from all over Israel and appointed them as leaders over the people. He put them in charge of groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten

. Delight in your true priorities. If they genuinely are important, plan time for them!

Psalm 37:23-24
“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; thought he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.”

Church Member

Romans 12:5 MSG “Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of Christ’s body. But as a chopped off finger or a cut off toe we wouldn’t amount to much, would we?”

1. Why do I need to be a church member?

a. Relationship

Even as Christ followers we are incomplete by ourselves.

b. Discipleship

Psalm 92:12-13 " The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; PLANTED in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.

c. Partnership

Ecclesiastes 4 “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their work…”

2. What does a good church member do?

Hebrews 10:23-25 “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

 1. Show up to church

Hebrews 10:25 “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

2.  Grow up to my full God potential

I Peter 2:2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation”

Ephesians 4:14 “We must become like a mature person, growing until we become like Christ and have his perfection.14 Then we will no longer be babies. We will not be tossed about like a ship that the waves carry one way and then another. We will not be influenced by every new teaching we hear from people who are trying to fool us.”

3.   Lift up my brothers and sisters

Hebrews 10:24 “let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work. If one falls down, his friend can help him up.

Hebrews 3:13 "Everyday keep encouraging one another so that none of you is hardened by the glamour of sin."

Galatians 6:1 “Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently.”

4.  Offer up my tithes and offerings

Malachi 3:10 “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.”

Matthew 6:21 Jesus “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

5.  Back up my Church my Pastors and the vision of our church

Hebrews 13:17 “Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.”

I Timothy 5:17 “The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching”

Ephesians 4:1-3 “I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

6. Take up my place of ministry

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
