Part 4
Patience
1. Jesus is patient with Peter’s FEARS.
2. Jesus is patient with Peter’s FAILURES.
3. Jesus was patient with Peter’s FAITH.
2 Peter 3:9
“The Lord is not slow in doing what he promised—the way some people understand slowness. But God is being PATIENT with you. He does not want anyone to be lost, but he wants all people to change their hearts and lives.”
How do we learn to be patient with each other?
1. See POTENTIAL
2. Show MERCY
James 2:12-13
“Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.”
Ephesians 4:32
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Colossians 3:13
“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
3. Seek God’s HELP
Galatians 5:19-22
“The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT is LOVE, joy, peace, PATIENCE, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

Peace
Galatians 5:16-21
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
James 1:19-20
“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.”
Three very important fertilizers for growing PEACE
1. LISTEN CAREFULLY
James 1:19
“everyone should be QUICK TO LISTEN and slow to speak.”
Proverbs 18:2
“ A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.”
A. Repeat back to the other person what they said.
B. Validate the other person’s feelings.
2. SPEAK WISELY
James 1:19
“Everyone should be quick to listen and slow to speak.”
Proverbs 21:23
“Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut and you will stay out of trouble.”
A. Should it be said?
B. Should it be said now?
C. Why am I saying it?
3. FORGIVE QUICKLY
James 1:19-20
"Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.”
Ephesians 4:26-27
“In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold."
Verse 26 “Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry...”

Joy
Joy Killers in the home
1. Conflict
Psalms 55:12-14 “If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were rising against me, I could hide. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God, as we walked about among the worshipers.”
Philippians 2:1 “Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then MAKE ME TRUELY HAPPY by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.”
2. Criticism
Proverbs 27:15 “A nagging spouse is like the drip, drip, drip of a leaky faucet; You can’t turn it off, and you can’t get away from it.”
Galatians 5:14-15 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another”
3. Over Committing
If your family tree is not producing joy how do you get it back?
1. Make your home a SAFE PLACE
Proverbs 22:6 “train up a child in the way they should go”
2 Timothy 2:24-25 “And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher, and patient. The Lord’s servant must GENTLY teach those who disagree. Then maybe God will let them change their minds so they can accept the truth.”
2. Lead your family with a SUSTAINABLE PACE
3. Fill your house with a Spirit of GRACE
Galatians 5:22 “The fruit of the Spirit it love, joy, peace, patience, kindness…"
2 Corinthians 12:9 “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
