Getting Started

Key statement: You don’t need a resolution you need a dream.

Acts 2:17-18 “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on ALL PEOPLE. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.”

Three categories of people

  • Those who DON’T HAVE A DREAM

  • Those who have the WRONG DREAM

  • Those who HAD A DREAM BUT LOST IT

Fourth category…

  • Those who have a dream but DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT.

Four things to get your DREAMS started:

1.
Stop talking about it

Ecclesiastes 5:7 TLB “dreaming instead of doing is foolishness, and there is ruin in a flood of empty words”

2. Stop perfecting it

Ecclesiastes 11:4 TLB “if you wait for perfect conditions, nothing gets done”

3. Start walking toward it

Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and light for my path”

4. Stay optimistic about it

God has a dream

Key statement:
You don’t need a resolution you need a dream.

WHAT IS GOD’S DREAM?

Lost people saved
Saved people healed
Healed people discipled
Discipled people sent

Exodus 6:6-7
“Therefore, say to the Israelites: “I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.”

The dream didn’t change in the New Testament:

Mark 16:15-20 “He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe... Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.”

Ephesians 2:4-10 “4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Lost people saved verse 5 “it is by grace you have been saved”

Saved people healed verse 6 “and God raised us up with Christ and seated us in the heavenly realms”

Healed people discipled verse 10 “for we are God’s handiwork created in Christ Jesus”

Discipled people sent verse 10 “created in Christ Jesus to do good works”

God’s dream is all about PEOPLE. How do we think like a church planter?

1. Pray

2. Serve

3. Connect

Colossians 4:5-6 CEV
“When you are with unbelievers, always MAKE GOOD USE of the time. Be pleasant and hold their interest when you speak the message. Choose your words carefully and be ready to give answers to anyone who asks questions.”

4. Invite

Seek GOD

Key statement: You don’t need a resolution you need a dream.

Acts 2:17-18 “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.”

Mark 10:46-52 “As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus&rdquoWinking, was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus 51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi,
I want to see.” 52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

Four things Bartimeaus does to get a God vision…

1. Show up

verse 46 “As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus… was sitting by the roadside begging.”

Matthew 18:20 “ For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

“In my years of ministry
I have never seen a decline in church attendance result in a growth in discipleship”

2. Call out

verse 46 “a blind man, Bartimaeus… was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Verse 48 “Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Verse 51 Jesus said… “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Rabbi,
I want to see.”

James 4:2 “you do not have because you do not ask…”

3. Let go

Verse 49-50 “Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.

4. Follow close

Verse 51-52 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” 52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.”

Psalm 37:23 TPT "The steps of the God-pursuing ones follow firmly in the footsteps of the Lord, and God delights in every step they take to follow him.”

Get Your Edge Back

DREAMS
Part 1:
Get Your Edge Back

Proverbs 29:18
“where there is no vision the people perish.”

Acts 2:17-18 “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.”

Three types of People…

1. Those who don’t have a dream.

Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

2. Those who have the wrong dream.

3. Those who had a dream but lost it.

2 Kings 6:1
“The company of the prophets said to Elisha, “Look, the place where we meet with you is too small for us. 2 Let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a pole; and let us build a place there for us to meet.” And he said, “Go.” 3 Then one of them said, “Won’t you please come with your servants?” “I will,” Elisha replied. 4 And he went with them. They went to the Jordan and began to cut down trees. 5 As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axhead fell into the water. “Oh no, my lord!” he cried out. “It was borrowed!” 6 The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. 7 “Lift it out,” he said. Then the man reached out his hand and took it.”

Three things from 2 Kings:

1.  It's possible to lose your edge even while building God’s Kingdom.

2. It is possible to lose your edge even while God is blessing.

verse 1 “The company of the prophets said to Elisha ‘Look the place where we are meeting is too small for us. Let us go to the Jordan...let us build a place there for us to live.”

3. It's possible to lose your edge while still being faithful.

How do we get our edge back?

1. Stop swinging.

2. Go back to where you lost it.

Revelations 2:3-5 “You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. 4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. 5 Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.

3. With God’s help, get it back.

Verse 6-7 “The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. 7 “Lift it out,” he said. Then the man reached out his hand and took it.”
