Builders Part 3: Build a Legacy

I Corinthians 3:10-15 “Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful.”

3 steps for building a legacy…

  1. Move from passion to action

2 Samuel 7:1–3 (NLT) “When King David was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all the surrounding enemies, 2 the king summoned Nathan the prophet. “Look,” David said, “I am living in a beautiful cedar palace, but the Ark of God is out there in a tent!” 3

1 Chronicles 28:2 (NLT) “David rose to his feet and said: “My brothers and my people! It was my desire to build a Temple where the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant, God’s footstool, could rest permanently. I made the necessary preparations for building it.”

2. Move from father to son

1 Chronicles 28:6–9 (NLT) “He (GOD) said to me, ‘Your son Solomon will build my Temple and its courtyards, for I have chosen him as my son, and I will be his father. 7 And if he continues to obey my commands and regulations as he does now, I will make his kingdom last forever.”

YOUR GREATEST LEGACY IS YOUR CHILDREN.

3. Move from tent to temple

1 Chronicles 29:3–10 (NLT) 3 “And now, because of my devotion to the Temple of my God, I am giving all of my own private treasures of gold and silver to help in the construction. This is in addition to the building materials I have already collected for his holy Temple….

verse 6 “Then the family leaders, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the generals and captains of the army, and the king’s administrative officers all gave willingly. 7 For the construction of the Temple of God,

verse 9 “The people rejoiced over the offerings, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD, and King David was filled with joy.”

Hebrews 11:39 “All these people are known for their faith, but none of them received what God had promised. 40 God planned to give us something better so that they would be made perfect, but only together with us.”

Builders Part 2: Build a Boat

I Corinthians 3:10 “ Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful.”

Word for the year:
BUILD

Genesis 6:11–14(NLT) — 11 Now God saw that the earth had become corrupt and was filled with violence. 12 God observed all this corruption in the world, for everyone on earth was corrupt. 13 So God said to Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth! 14 “Build a large boat from cypress wood and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior.

17-22 17 “Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing that breathes. Everything on earth will die. 18 But I will confirm my covenant with you. So enter the boat—you and your wife and your sons and their wives. 19 Bring a pair of every kind of animal—a male and a female—into the boat with you to keep them alive during the flood. 20 Pairs of every kind of bird, and every kind of animal, and every kind of small animal that scurries along the ground, will come to you to be kept alive. 21 And be sure to take on board enough food for your family and for all the animals.” 22 So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.”

4 things that we need to know about building a boat.

  1. Judgement is real

Verse 11 “Now God saw that the earth had become corrupt and was filled with violence. 12 God observed all this corruption in the world, for everyone on earth was corrupt.”

Romans 6:23 “The wages of sin is death…”

Matthew 24:37-39 “When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day. 38 In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. 39 People didn’t realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.”

2 Peter 3:9–10 (NLT) “The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.”

2. The ark is for rescue

verse 13 “So God said to Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth! 14 “Build a large boat from cypress wood and waterproof it with tar, inside and out.

verse 18 “enter the boat—you and your wife and your sons and their wives. 19 Bring a pair of every kind of animal—a male and a female—into the boat with you to keep them alive during the flood.”

Mark 2:17
“Healthy people don’t need a doctor, sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”

3. God is already working

verse 19 “Bring a pair of every kind of animal—a male and a female—into the boat with you to keep them alive during the flood. 20 Pairs of every kind of bird, and every kind of animal, and every kind of small animal that scurries along the ground, will come to you to be kept alive.”

verse 20 “and every kind of small animal that scurries along the ground, will come to you.”

What can you do to help build the rescue boat? 4 things

a. Pray

b. Love

c. Speak

Romans 10:14–15 (NLT) But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?”

d. Bring
Recent Poll: 63% of people who do not attend church said they would come to a church service if someone invited them.

4. The door is still open

Builders Part 1: Build a Tabernacle

Builders
Part 1
Build a Tabernacle

I Corinthians 3:10 “ Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful.”

Word for the year…

BUILD

1 Corinthians 3:13–15 “But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. 14 If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. 15 But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.”

Exodus 25:8-9 (God told Moses&hellipWinking “Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them. 9 You must build this Tabernacle and its furnishings exactly according to the pattern I will show you.”

This tabernacle that we are building is…

A place where people can come to KNOW GOD.

Exodus 27:9 “Make a courtyard for the tabernacle.”

2 things I want for every one of you this year…

I want you to know God

Ephesians 1:16 “I have not stopped giving thanks to God for you. I always remember you in my prayers, 17 asking the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you will know him better…”

The outcome of your year will be determined by the order of your life.

1. Give God the first of your day

2. Give God the first of your week

3. Give God the first of your month

4. Give God the first of your year

5. Give God the first of your finances

B. I want your friends and family to know God through you

John 17:3 “And this is eternal life: that people know you, the only true God, and that they know Jesus Christ, the One you sent.”

2. A place where people can Find Freedom

Colossians 1:17 and 20 MSG “He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment. And when it comes to the church, he organizes and holds it together, like a head does a body…. all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms—get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross.

3. A place where people can discover their purpose

I Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

4. A place where people can Make a Difference

Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Exodus 40:33–34 NLT: “33 Then he hung the curtains forming the courtyard around the Tabernacle and the altar. And he set up the curtain at the entrance of the courtyard. So at last Moses finished the work. 34 Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle.

One Word

Come to Worship
Part 3
Worship is Giving Something

Matthew 2:1-2 “Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea during the time when Herod was king. When Jesus was born, some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem. 2 They asked, “Where is the baby who was born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.”

Mark 12:29-30 ““The most important one…is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

We worship God by giving Him 3 things.

1. We worship God when we give Him all our affection.

verse 28 “Love the Lord with all your heart and soul.”

Jeremiah 2:11 “Look closely. Has this ever happened before, That a nation has traded in its gods for gods that aren’t even close to gods? But my people have traded my Glory for empty god-dreams and silly god-schemes.”

2. We worship God when we give Him all our attention.

verse 28 “love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and with all your mind…”

Romans 12:2 (MSG) “Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God.”

Hebrews 12:1 “let us fix our eyes of Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.”

3. We worship God when we give Him all our abilities.

verse 28 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul, with all your mind and with all your strength.”

Romans 12:1 (MSG) “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.”

Colossians 3:23 (CEV) “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.”

John 4:23 “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.”
