His Name is: Everlasting Father

His Name Is
Part 3
Everlasting Father

Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Maybe you see the ETERNAL FATHER as…

1. UNREASONABLE

2. UNRELIABLE

3. UNTOUCHABLE

Matthew 5:48 “Your heavenly father is PERFECT”

Three characteristics of our ETERNAL FATHER…

1. He is a FATHER who CARES

Psalm 103:13 “The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him”

Mark 4:38 “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?’’

I Peter 5:7 “Cast all your cares on him for HE CARES for YOU.”

Matthew 6:31-32 "So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.”

Matthew 7:9-11 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

2. He is a FATHER who is CONSISTENT

James 1:17 "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever”

2 Timothy 2:13 “If we are faithless he remains faithful”

Malachi 3:6 “I the Lord do not change.”

3. He is a FATHER who is CLOSE

Psalm 145:18 The Lord is near to all who call on Him. To all who call on his truth”

Psalm 102:17 “He will listen to the prayers of the destitute, for he is NEVER TOO BUSY to heed their requests”

James 4:8 “Come near to God and he will come near to you”

His Name is: Wonderful Counselor

His Name Is
Part 1
Wonderful Counselor

Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Psalm 16:11 “You will make known to me the path of life."

Psalm 23:3 “He guides me along right paths”

Matthew 11:28 “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest…”

How do I approach the Wonderful Counselor? Three things…

1. We need to OPEN UP.

2. We need to LISTEN UP.

Mark 9:7 “This is my son whom I love… LISTEN TO HIM”

How does the Wonderful Counselor speak to us?

a. His SPIRIT

John 16:13 “when he, the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all truth”

b. The SCRIPTURES

Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

c. SITUATIONS

d. SOUND ADVICE

Proverbs 19:20
“Listen to advice and accept instruction and in the end you will be wise”

John 10:27 “My sheep listen to my voice, I know them and they follow me”

3. We need to FOLLOW UP

James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

His Name is: Mighty God

His Name Is
Part 2
Mighty God

Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Ephesians 3:20 “Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”

Isaiah 40:28-31 NIV “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Three things about the power of God…

1. The evidence of his power.

Isaiah 40:28 “The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the earth.”

Isaiah 40:26 “Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”

Psalm 19:1-2 “The heavens are telling the glory of God, they are a marvelous display of His craftsmanship, night and day they keep telling about God.”

2. The expanse of his power.

Isaiah 40:28 “He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.” He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”

2 Corinthians 12:9 “His power is made perfect in our weakness.”

3. The exchange of His power.

Isaiah 40:29 “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”

Isaiah 40:30-31
“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

1 Corinthians 4:20 NLT “For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.”

How do I live out God’s power in my life? Two things from this passage…

1. Time in God’s presence

Isaiah 40:31 “those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength …”

2. Trust in God’s promise

Isaiah 40:31 “those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength …”
